Thank you for your support!
We thank everyone for their warm support of our campaign! We ran a positive campaign focused on the issues, the importance of a Democratic majority in Richmond and raised the importance of our environmental heritage with our changing climate.
A Democratic majority in Richmond will help bring home more revenue for transportation and give us the opportunity to create a comprehensive energy policy that moves our Commonwealth towards a more sustainable future.
Teri and I will be fighting tooth and nail for 21/51. We'll both be staffing Clifton and Popes Head precinct and two others in Sully. We are planning fundraisers for state candidates this fall - details of a Garden Part for George and Janet on September 23rd.
It is absolutely vital for Virginia that all of us vote for Democrats in November, and whereever possible work for the fine candidates on the ticket that ring with our values.
Yours in truest regard,

A focus on efficiency
Renewable energy sources like wind and solar are getting a lot of attention these days as a way to reduce the impact of energy use on the environment. But even enthusiastic supporters of alternative energy agree that the easiest way to cut carbon emissions and air pollution is to focus more on efficiency, less on pollution-free generation.A recent New York Times article brings a focus on investment in efficiency as a win for governments and power companies.
Oceans getting saturated with excess CO2
The Southern Ocean around Antarctica is so loaded with carbon dioxide that it can barely absorb any more, so more of the gas will stay in the atmosphere to warm up the planet, scientists reported Thursday.
"We thought we would be able to detect these only the second half of this century, say 2050 or so," she said. But data from 1981 through 2004 show the sink is already full of carbon dioxide. "So I find this really quite alarming."
What is Tim Hugo Afraid of ?
Hint the intials are MM
Over the last couple of months Del. Tim Hugo has sent fundraising letters and mail pieces to the people of the 40th District defending himself and his actions in Richmond. His latest mailing claims to debunk the “myths” regarding the Transportation Funding Reform Act. What this mailing really does is spread disinformation to the public and misrepresent the realities of the bill.
The biggest problem with his so-called reform is that it siphons money away from the General Fund. This is money that is used to pay for education funding, healthcare, public safety and other vital government programs that are important to the well being of our state and Republicans like Tim Hugo have been taking money away from them for years. In fact, this bill would have taken even more money from the General Fund, $144 million/year more, if it weren’t for Governor Tim Kaine. Gov. Kaine amended the bill, which would have originally drained $200 million/year from the general fund to only take $66 million/year.
Tim Hugo is proud of the $3 billion dollar bond package that came as a part of this bill, but what he hasn’t told you and won’t tell you, is that he is mortgaging your children’s future to pay for these changes. Hugo also will not tell you that here in Northern Virginia will have to increase our own taxes even further than the rest of the State. While Northern Virginia has been granted the right to increase our own taxes and keep the money here, there is nothing in the transportation bill that shifts the current funding formula or guarantees that Northern Virginia will finally get the appropriate share of the over all state funds. There is a better way, and by sending more Democratic Delegates to Richmond we will get there.
What is most telling though is that this mailing attempts to refute important points that Morris Meyer has been sharing with voters at their doors, and at events throughout the district. The truth of the matter is that Tim Hugo has heard what Morris has told thousands of voters in the 40th district and now Hugo is trying to hide from those truths. (Hugo’s mail pieces uses language almost verbatim from the messages that Meyer volunteers leave while phone banking).
Morris Meyer knows that we need to send a Delegate to Richmond who will work with Governor Kaine on transportation and other equally important issues that affect our state and our district. Tim Hugo is not that delegate. We cannot solve today’s problems by having our children foot the bill. The people of the 40th District know that Tim Hugo’s plan is not the answer.
If you are wondering what Tim Hugo is afraid of, the answer is clear. He is afraid of Morris Meyer, and he is even more afraid of the voters in his district. He is afraid that they will respond to hearing the truth and will elect a Delegate that will stand up for his principles, for Democratic values and for the people of Northern Virginia. That delegate will be Morris Meyer.
